John Tomsett - Curriculum Development for Real...
Join us in hearing John Tomsett share his wealth of experience on curriculum development for senior leaders
John taught for 33 years in state schools and was a teaching headteacher for 18 years. He writes a blog called This Much I Know, and has written extensively about school leadership. He has previously published five books: Love over Fear: Creating a Culture for Truly Great Teaching; Mind Over Matter: Improving Mental Health in our Schools; Putting Staff First: A Blueprint for Revitalising our Schools (with Jonny Uttley); An Angler’s Journal; and Cognitive Apprenticeship in Action (editor).
Over the course of this seminar, delegates will learn how to develop their school curriculum without fear, in a straightforward, collaborative process.
The session will be split into two halves. The first half will focus on the challenges for school leaders in developing the curriculum, with a focus upon bringing clarity to the process and removing the fear in senior leaders around this work, which is largely rooted in a lack of confidence about what exactly is required when developing the curriculum.
The second half of the session will focus upon the relationship between senior leaders and subject leaders and how they can work together to develop the curriculum, drawing on the work John has done with Mary Myatt for their new book called “Huh – curriculum conversations between subject and senior leaders”, due out on 18 September 2021.
